Abstract
This study discusses the significance of hyponatremia in stroke patients, particularly focusing on its prevalence, causes, and implications in India. Hyponatremia, defined as low serum sodium levels, is a common electrolyte abnormality in neurological disorders like stroke. This study done in a tertiary care hospital in South-India explores two main causes of hyponatremia in stroke patients: Syndrome of Inappropriate Antidiuretic Hormone (SIADH) and Cerebral Salt Wasting Syndrome (CSWS). It highlights the importance of differentiating between these two conditions due to their distinct management strategies. The lack of extensive studies on hyponatremia in stroke patients, particularly from rural areas in India makes this an important subject to analyze.
